Wet Weekend Results

Crazy weather! What is this Seattle? Rain for Saturday morning Cadence Cup and rain all day H2H 1 MTB in NJ. Henry Simonds, the only Zteam member to brave the elements on Saturday morning, went to Brooklyn for 6:30 am start in the rain. Here"s his report:

So I went out today. "There were about 35 Cat 5's. A bunch of guys attacked on the hill during the 2nd lap, and that was it for a handful of us. From there on, it was a TT slog to the finish. At least I went out."

Very courageous, maybe crazy! Way to represent!

Sunday, also in the rain was the 1st of 8 H2H Mountain Bike race series. Steve Mancuso, Shasta Jensen and I were treated to the finest mud and slop New Jersey has to offer. Steve finished right ahead of me 6th place out of 20 in the PRO class. I was 7th. 2 hours and 36 minutes. Shasta competes in the 40 plus cat 1 field, one of the most competitive classes in the whole race. She is one of 6 athletes feared by anyone thinking they might try the cat 1 class. She placed 3rd! Tough! Great showing everyone!

Short summary would be : April 19th, Fair Hill MD, 3 lap race, 7.5 miles each lap. From the start I pulled ahead and took the lead. My holeshot was disturbed by 2 riders for a brief moment then as I passed them and worked my way through the 19-34 Experts then the Expert singlespeeds and ultimately 7 Elite riders to place 18th overall. I finished 1st place in my class of Expert Vet 35-39 but 18th overall so if I raced Elite I would have been in the money as they paid 20 deep. Beautiful race course fast swoopy turns. Weather was great and turnout was spectacular. Great group of riders and race was promoted just right. Nice experience at my first Mid-Atlantic Super Series race.

A few different events going on today. Matt Wilpers and I did the Spring Series Time Trial in The Palisades of NJ (River Road). My first and Matt's 2nd. Not sure of the results, but an all out effort for 24 minutes pretty much sums it up. Steven Mancuso now believes he belongs in the Pro field after winning the Cat 1 MTB class in Maryland. John Milone held 6:00 min miles for a 4 mile "training" race in Central Park. Way to get out there guys. Let me know when your riding during the week or join us in the park for the morning rides.

Weekend Results

Matt Wilpers and I returned to Central Park Sunday for race 4 of the NYC Spring Series. Windy and cold, the pace was still fast at 23 + mph with Matt leading most of the time. A crazy finish with sprints starting way early, I tried to jump from wheel to wheel and work my way to the front. By the time I was ready to sprint, the leader was way up the road and fading. I almost caught him but he dug pretty deep to win by a wheel. I was 2nd, Matt finished with the pack after controlling the pace and covering any breaks for 3 laps.

John Milone won his age group (35-39) in the "Prospect Park Spring Du" duathlon. Way to go John!

Central Park Spring Series

ZTEAM NYC makes a strong showing at the Spring Series race in Central Park. Dan Ownes, Matt Wilpers and I were near the front of the cat 5 group for 3 laps. With a tip from Dan about NY Velocity I was able to pick a good leadout and win the sprint finish. Dan and Matt were close behind, finishing with the lead pack in their first race of the season. Great Job!

Veteran John Milone also came out for the cat 4 race. A good effort getting to the race but had to leave early for a work emergency. Yes, at 7:30 Sunday morning. Tough times! He's got the race bug though.

With the weather finally starting to come around, it's time to start meeting for regular group rides. I will start my morning rides in CP next week. Tuesday and Thursday mornings, 5:30 at Tavern on the Green. I will also be out on the weekends, meeting at the GW bridge at 9:00 am. I need some other members to step up and "lead" rides at other times. Let me know when you ride and I will post it here.

Spring Coming

Hello all, Spring is coming, I know it is, it comes every year. Time to roll outside. Regular rides will meet on the NY side of the GW bridge at 9:00, Saturdays and Sundays. Bring or send friends to these weekend ZteaM rides. This is a great time to build club membership.

I will begin leading the morning workouts in Central Park soon as well. They will meet at Tavern on the Green at 5:30 am on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Anyone want to lead evening rides? 7:00 pm at Tavern on Tuesdays and Thursdays? Having a regular training/riding schedule is the best way to improve.

I have some team gear for sale. Let me know before you order anything from ZteaM.
